THE LEGACY

Silicon Valley Engineering Meets Marine Innovation

XFOIL was founded by Paul Lowchareonkul, a serial entrepreneur, award-winning designer, and CEO of PLX Devices Inc. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, Paul has spent over two decades designing, patenting, manufacturing, and shipping disruptive innovations across the automotive, clean energy, and consumer electronics industries. His design engineering work has earned three SEMA Best New Product Awards, the Popular Mechanics Editors' Choice Award, and over 100 global media awards.

THE INSPIRATION

Born from the Ocean

A lifelong waterman, Paul has spent his life windsurfing, kite surfing, and exploring some of the world’s most exciting water sports destinations since the age of ten. That deep connection to the ocean gave him firsthand experience with a common frustration: depending on unpredictable wind and weather conditions that can cut the perfect session short.

XFOIL was created to change that experience — giving riders the freedom to fly above the water with electric power, advanced engineering, and confidence-inspiring control.

THE EVOLUTION

From Prototype to Apex

XFOIL was not created overnight. It is the result of five years of eFoil development, ocean testing, engineering refinement, and real rider feedback.

Alpha 1 (2021)

Our first working prototype, built to validate the core XFOIL concept, board architecture, propulsion system, and control platform.

Alpha 2 (2023)

The next stage of refinement, improving ride feel, electronics, reliability, and overall platform design through continued testing.

Escape (2025)

A more approachable generation focused on accessibility, stability, and making premium eFoil performance easier to ride and own.

Apex (2026)

The latest evolution of XFOIL, bringing together everything learned across years of development into a refined, high-performance platform.

From Alpha 1 to Apex, every generation moved XFOIL closer to one goal: delivering high-performance eFoiling to more riders without the legacy-brand price barrier.

Global production ready XFOIL eFoil line

Tested in Hawaii. Engineered in California.

As a product backed by PLX Devices, XFOIL combines Silicon Valley engineering discipline with real-world marine testing in the waters of Hawaii. PLX Devices is a family-owned Silicon Valley technology company established in 2003, with a long history of developing, manufacturing, shipping, and supporting innovative products across multiple industries.

XFOIL represents the next chapter in that journey: bringing proven product development experience, advanced engineering, and waterman-driven design into the future of electric hydroflight.
